Paris in three days, organised by neighbourhood

Grouping visits by neighbourhood avoids repeated crossings of Paris and leaves time to enjoy the city rather than simply travel between monuments.

Finding the right base

A cheap room far from useful transport can cost time every day. Compare the walk to a station, changes towards your main visits and the return journey in the evening. The Marais and centre suit walking between historic streets, the Seine and museums, but check room size, lift and cancellation conditions.

The Latin Quarter and Saint-Germain make practical bases on the Left Bank. Atmosphere varies street by street, so check the exact address. Montparnasse, Bastille and other connected areas can offer a balance of location and price: a useful direct line matters more than the arrondissement number.

Check whether the nearest station offers lifts or escalators, especially with suitcases, a pushchair or limited mobility. Do not assume that every entrance is accessible.

A considered three-day route

Day one: explore Île de la Cité, then cross the Seine towards the Latin Quarter or Saint-Germain. Day two: choose one main museum with a realistic entry slot and continue through nearby gardens or avenues rather than adding several indoor attractions.

Day three: choose Montmartre, allowing for hills and crowds, or a more relaxed route around Canal Saint-Martin and the Marais. One main area leaves time for breaks and unexpected discoveries.

Airports and local transport

Paris has several airports. The best connection depends on your final address, arrival time and any transport works. Consult the official airport information and current journey planner instead of assuming that an old transfer route is still suitable.

Métro, RER, buses and trams form an extensive network. Check that your ticket covers the entire journey and retain it until you exit. Recheck longer journeys on the morning of travel: disruption can make a tight timed admission impractical.

Before confirming

Compare the final price and cancellation rules. Check the nearest station's line and necessary changes. Avoid scheduling two major museums in the same half-day, and compare the airport transfer alongside the accommodation cost.

Save reservations and the property's exact address offline. Allow time for walking and station changes, and check step-free routes if needed. These suggestions are not confirmation of current opening times or admission availability.
